An eye sees all before it
Cycloptic undeterred, bioptic undeclared
The sun can’t wait to slip away
Under the banner of dusk
Relentless retreat
Somewhere a man tougher than us awakens
Hungry, for we are weak
The elms disappear with the light
They fade early, short of yesteryear’s majesty
What is left but confusion and unease?
We are beleaguered, a demon
Sows doubt like thirsty seeds
Parasitic in soil and blood
They bear an unnamed virus
That unmans us in our tracks
Aletheia! What now has come to be
Yet remains to scar us again
Risen faculties see no better
Than those struck down, vivisected
Yet dandelions still erupt shamelessly
And bring their lovely confusion in the dim
Yellow meteorites claiming a path
Somewhere! There!
